The WooderWorks Cup is the year-long club competition in which brewers compete in several rounds, each with a specific theme, and membership samples the results and votes for their winner. Points are awarded to the top three entries with 1st Place getting 3 points, 2 for 2nd Place, and 1 for 3rd. The brewer with the most points at the end of the year gets their name added to the prestigious WooderWorks Cup!

2025 Round 1 – Brew to Style! All brewers compete by brewing the same style of beer, with judges looking for how well the specific style is represented. The style for this competition is a German weissbier, aka Hefeweizen. This is a bavarian wheat ale known for its golden color, pillowy head, and distinctive banana and clove ester profile.

2024 Round 1 – SMaSH recipe of brewer’s choice. SMaSH stands for Single Malt and Single Hop. Beer recipes are typically crafted from a few to several different grains (called the grain bill) and a couple different varieties of hops. In a SMaSH recipe, the brewer is limited to using just one variety of malt and one variety of hops, which can be challenging to create a well rounded beer.
3rd Place – Tom Godfrey’s Marzen (Bready and Delicious)
2nd Place – Sharon Ferraro’s Pale Ale (Lush Fruity Aroma)
1st Place – Scott Bombeck’s New Zealand Pilsner (Crisp)

2024 Round 2 – Brew to style! A style of beer is chosen and all brewers create their take on that particular style. Brewers are allowed to put their spin on it with adjuncts (anything added to a beer outside of grains, hops, and yeast to impact the flavor, color, and/or aroma of the beer, like fruit) but the base style must be represented. The style for this competition was the American Cream Ale.
3rd Place – Tom Godfrey’s Mexican Street Corn Cream Ale (Creative and Interesting)
2nd Place – Scott Bombeck’s Cream Ale with Huell Melon Hops (Slightly Tart)
1st Place – Sharon Ferraro’s Cream Ale with Mt Hood Hops (Crusher)

2024 Round 3 – The third and final round is a mystery ingredient competition. Adjunct ingredients are solicited from the club membership and each competing brewer will select an ingredient at random from the list. Entries will be judged both on overall enjoyment of the beer and how well the mystery ingredient is represented. Judges will be picking their favorites in each category so there are double the points up for grabs!
2nd Place – Scott Bombeck’s NEIPA with habanero
1st Place – Sharon Ferraro’s Amber Ale with maple syrup and coriander

2024 Final Leaderboard
Sharon Ferraro -11 Points
Scott Bombeck – 9 Points
Tom Godfrey – 2 Points
